One Room Challenge – Week 2
Wow what an exciting first week! To be honest, I was super nervous to start but I think I found my new hobby. DIY is amazing! I love how calm it makes me.
If you missed my last post, I have accepted the challenge to participate in this season’s One Room Challenge with Better Homes and Gardens. The challenge is to transform one room in 6 weeks time. To start this challenge in our new home, I decided to transform our living room!
Being a beginning DIYer, I have been a bit nervous to transform a space without really knowing what I am doing, but I guess that is the fun part right?! I’ve already messed up a ton, received 3 splinters and 1 blood blister, so therefore I have officially done my initiation into the DIY world. Dont you agree? Haha
This week I was able to accomplish SO much for my first time dealing with power tools and actual DIY projects. Jake and I started building our IKEA bookshelves so that we could make it look built into our wall. Here’s what we accomplished so far:
- We build platforms made out of 1×2 boards so that we could raise our IKEA bookshelves an inch so that it would sit flush against the wall and above our baseboards.
- We cut out holes in the IKEA bookshelves so that we could bring our outlets through the them so we could continue to have access to them.
- We then added on these IKEA cupboard doors so that we could make the room look more uniform and organized (and also hide the one outlet that I messed up on).
- And then we bought trim and shiplap to add to the rest of the room (that will be my week 2 project).
Honestly I’m just so proud of the work we’ve done! I’m also so glad that I am developing new talents and skills. Even though I’ve made multiple mistakes, I’m not going to let that stop me because I know for sure that I’ll make many many more mistakes to come.
Here’s to week 2!! Cheers!
