Week 3 – One Room Challenge
Honestly this past week I did not get anything done that I was hoping to. There were a lot of DIY challenges that I ran into with the built in bookshelf that my beginner DIY brain was NOT prepared for.
I had a major goal in Week 2 to actually finish building the built-in look around our IKEA bookshelves, that way I could be prepared to meet Week 3 with a paint brush in hand to make it look complete. But… that’s part of DIY, am I right?
On Instagram I have learned A LOT from other DIY influencers, and I think the #1 thing I’ve learned from them all is that DIY = FAILING! You will fail and Fail and FAIL!! But that is how you learn and therefore, SUCCEED! (It’s inspiring to hear that from them, in a way, they actually encourage me to fail, so that I can then learn and grow in my DIY knowledge. I love it!)
Sooo yes, I did not finish my big picture goal that I had in mind for week 2, however I need to celebrate my wins!!
I did the following:
- Build Baseboard trim on the bookshelves
- Bought bigger outlet plates to cover my mistakes… (because I definitely did make some )
- Cut the trim I needed to finish the built in look
- Spray painted my chandelier black so that it would match my beautiful floor lamp.
- And I finally figured out how to obtain the built in look and how I am going to connect the two Ikea bookshelves… And man did that take a LOT of thinking and planning to do. Week 3 will be me actually building it.
This week I’ve come to a realization. Being a full time employee, being a wife and a mother to an 8 month old, my life is already busy. Though I want so badly to accomplish my goals in 6 weeks to finish this room. I have told myself it is OKAY to not finish everything. Family is #1 and DIY will be a hobby that will always be there when I need a little ‘me-time’.
So for those of you who are like me, who stress out about not finishing your to-do lists. It’s okay!! You hear me?! You are enough! Don’t beat yourself up because you didn’t get the mail, do the dishes, get your car washed, or even take a shower. It will be okay! There will always be tomorrow! But today, focus on what matters most and take it one step at a time.
Cheers to Week 3 of the One Room Challenge!
