DIY Faux Leather Pillow Covers
Nothing adds a perfect touch to a home like some a DIY Faux Leather Pillow Covers , am I right?
I LOVE the look of the modern Leather throw pillows, but I didn’t want to have to have that talk with my husband about how I spent over $30 on one throw pillow… *eeek* … but let’s be real, I have those talks everyday on how I can justify an expense to make my home look gorgeous… Anyone else with me? *raise hand* It wasn’t until I went to my sisters house and I saw her gorgeous DIY Faux Leather Pillow Covers on her sofa and I asked her where she got them and she said she made them!… drop the phone… what?! I was mind blown! They looked incredible! Thanks to my sister Kaila I was able to learn this fun cost affordable way to have some GORGEOUS looking throw pillows in my home.
For two of these DIY Faux Leather Pillow Covers with the pillow inserts I spent about $20. I bought two yards of Buffalo Teak leather fabric from Fabric.com for $13 and then with some $3 Ikea inserts they turned out great! You can also buy a set of two pillow inserts from Amazon here. Read below for the step by step guide on how to create your own 20×20 DIY Faux Leather Pillow Cover that will fit a 20×20 Pillow Insert.
You can also view the 1 minute video tutorial below.
Step 1: Measure and cut out two 16×20 pieces and one 20×20.
Step 2: Take the 16×20 pieces and lay them with the wrong side facing up. Take one 20″ side and fold up the fabric one inch. Iron, and then fold up one more inch and iron and pin together. Sew closest to the folded edge.
*When ironing leather, cover the leather with a light cloth before ironing so that you don’t burn the leather*
Step 3: Lay the 20×20 piece right side up. Next lay one of the 16×20 pieces on top of the 20×20 piece so that the right sides are touching. Pin the top so the pieces are secure.
Step 4: Layer the second 16×20 piece right on top as shown in the picture below. Finish pinning about .5-1 inch around the edges. Sew together.
Step 5: Once you’ve sewn around the edges, cut the corners at a diagonal to remove excessive fabric from bunching once you turn it inside out.
Step 6: Flip it inside-out and you are done! To really pop out the corner edges I used a chop stick. (You can use a pen, just be careful not to poke a hole through the corner.)
