  • Black Spray Paint – Amazon or Walmart

  • Cricut Machine for Vinyl & access to Cricut Design Space

Let’s Get Crafting!

For this DIY Halloween Decor you want to find the perfect frame. I found this cute vintage looking round frame at a thrift store near me. Additionally I saw that Walmart sells a pack of 4 mini vintage frames for $10! Nevertheless, whatever frame you do decide to use, spray paint it black to give it a darker/modern Halloween look.

To provide a vintage look, purchase this Muslin Cloth from Walmart for super cheap. I feel like the Muslin Cloth was perfect for a ‘vintage’ look. The fabric is textured just right. Two yards is plenty, so feel free to purchase a smaller amount.

Next, I used the glass from the frame as a template and drew the outline of the class on the muslin cloth. A crayon worked fine, but feel free to use a marker or whatever else you have on hand. (I will say, do NOT use glass for the muslin cloth to wrap onto. I did this, and the heat from the hot glue & heat from the iron made the glass break. Hence, replace the glass for cardboard.)

Cut a 0.5″-1″ boarder outside of the line you drew. You want to be able to have enough fabric to wrap around the edges of your cardboard and glue the fabric in place to the back side. All in all, this helps keep the fabric tight and also makes sure that no one see’s the hot glue from the front.

The Cricut Maker Process with Iron-On Vinyl

Next, on Cricut’s Design Center they have a ton of options for ‘skeleton silhouettes’ and I paid $3 for four skeleton designs. And let me tell you they were perfect! You can view the skeleton images that I used HERE.

Next, you’ll want to make sure that you purchase Permanent Iron On Vinyl. I chose black since my frames were black and then I mirrored the image, and always remember that for Iron On Vinyl when cutting, make sure you lay the shiny side down on the mat. Subsequently, you’ll want to weed it as normal and then lay it on top of your muslin cloth.

Place a towel on top of your iron-on vinyl to protect your vinyl from being overheated and mess up your vinyl. Use an iron or heat press on top of the towel that’s covering the iron on vinyl and hold it down for about 30 seconds. Immediately but slowly, remove the plastic, ensuring that the vinyl is fully sticking to the muslin cloth.

These fabulous DIY picture frame skeleton silhouette wall art pieces are sure to impress your guests and add a spine-chilling charm to your home. They’ll serve as a striking reminder that Halloween is all about creativity and a little bit of spooky fun. Therefore, gather your supplies, let your imagination run wild, and enjoy creating these hauntingly beautiful decorations!
