*Rule of thumb* Do NOT use MDF in areas that will *Rule of thumb* Do NOT use MDF in areas that will get wet (like bathrooms) as it can warp easily. So this video is a great example for bedrooms, living rooms, etc. I wrote a whole blog post about why pre-primed MDF is overall cheaper and less time consuming. You can certainly buy regular MDF boards or even common boards, but then you’d need to make sure that the boards are sanded (if it’s a common board or plywood, etc) and then primed. Why primer?? Wood is porous which means it will literally absorb the paint which means it’s easier to crack, chip or not apply evenly. By priming you are sealing the wood which allows better adhesion for the paint and improved durability.
